I am Sarah, the artist/illustrator and designer behind Sarah Jane Art.
I currently work full time as an Urban Designer, playing my part in the development of our built environment. I graduated with a degree in Geography in 2009, followed by a master’s degree in town planning, which I completed in 2010. Following this, and a brief period of living abroad in Oman, I began working full time as a town planner. It didn’t take me long to realise that the creative person inside of me was unfulfilled in my chosen career path and I subsequently completed a course in Urban Design, which led me to where I am now, working as an Urban Designer within a Planning Consultancy in Dorset, and drawing / painting on the side.
As with most creatives, I have loved art and design since I can remember. Whilst my siblings were reading or watching something on the TV (not that I don’t love a good book!), I was scribbling away, colouring in or experimenting with my latest crafty phase. Art, to me, is a way of life and despite pauses in drawing and painting whilst at university, it is something I can’t imagine life without.
As a result, I made the decision a year or so ago to prioritise my artwork, to make it a little more than just a hobby and to set up Sarah Jane Art.
Through this blog, I hope to share with you my artwork and illustrations, my growth as an artist/illustrator, my experiences along the way, and my inspirations and lessons learned.
I hope you enjoy reading.
